چکیده

The corresponding author has formally requested to retract the above-titled paper, which was published online on 9 January 2009. Table 1 has been duplicated from a prior publication (Brain 2008;131:3311–3334). The immunoblot image in Fig. 4C has been fabricated, and portions of that image were duplicated from a prior Diabetes article (Diabetes 2008;57:1002–1017; Fig. 6A) without the knowledge of the corresponding author. The immunohistochemical images in Fig. 5 were not from the cohorts of mice indicated, but were taken from older data not representative of the cohorts studied. The author apologizes to the readers of the journal for any inconvenience these issues may have caused.

Intranasal Insulin Ameliorates Experimental Diabetic Neuropathy

OBJECTIVE We hypothesized that intranasal insulin (I-I) delivery targets the nervous system while avoiding potential adverse systemic effects when compared with subcutaneous insulin (S-I) for experimental streptozotocin-induced diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN). RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS I-I or S-I at 0.87 IU daily or placebo were delivered in separate cohorts of diabetic and nondiabetic...

Selective T-Type Calcium Channel Blockade Alleviates Hyperalgesia in ob/ob Mice

OBJECTIVE Morbid obesity may be accompanied by diabetes and painful diabetic neuropathy, a poorly understood condition that is manifested by mechanical or thermal allodynia and hyperalgesia. Recent studies have highlighted the importance of T-type calcium channels (T-channels) in peripheral nociception; therefore, our goal was to examine the function of these channels in the pathophysiology and...

Elevated Triglycerides Correlate With Progression of Diabetic Neuropathy

OBJECTIVE To evaluate mechanisms underlying diabetic neuropathy progression using indexes of sural nerve morphometry obtained from two identical randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trials. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS Sural nerve myelinated fiber density (MFD), nerve conduction velocities (NCVs), vibration perception thresholds, clinical symptom scores, and a visual analog scale for pain w...

Abnormal muscle spindle innervation and large-fiber neuropathy in diabetic mice.

OBJECTIVE Large-fiber diabetic polyneuropathy (DPN) leads to balance and gait abnormalities, placing patients at risk for falls. Large sensory axons innervating muscle spindles provide feedback for balance and gait and, when damaged, can cause altered sensorimotor function. This study aimed to determine whether symptoms of large-fiber DPN in type 1 and type 2 diabetic mouse models are related t...
